A man who worked at a Fayetteville drag club was killed early Tuesday, and a friend of the victim said police were investigating the case as a hate crime.

Jimmy Ali McCollough, 34, of the 1500 block of Cashier’s Lane, was found dead at the edge of the road in front of 119 Joseph St. Police responded to the area after someone reported an unconscious, unresponsive man shortly after midnight.

Dy'Mond Cartier said police said McCullough worked at Club Emages, a Swain Street drag club that Cartier owns. He went by the name Imaje Devera at the club, Cartier said.

Club Emages wasn't open Monday night, Cartier said, so it was unclear what McCullough was doing in the area.

Police haven't released a cause of death, but Cartier said officers said McCullough had been stabbed and that they were investigating the slaying as a hate crime.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Fayetteville Police Department Homicide Investigation Unit at 433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 483-8477.

Hate crimes...I just don't get it. So if this guy was murdered because the perpertrator wanted his money, somehow that's better than murdering him because of his sexual orientation? I think 1st degree murder should suffice.

If you kill someone and it wasn't an accident, then surely it wasn't because you liked them. You hated them, if only for a brief moment, even if it was a loved one in the case of domestic violence. Calling a murder a "hate crime" is pointless and does nothing but get liberals panties bunched up.
