Raleigh, N.C. — A chase involving Wake County sheriff’s deputies and a suspect going the wrong way on Interstate 540 ended late Wednesday with a head-on collision, authorities said.
The chase started at 9:49 p.m. in Wake Forest after deputies tried to stop larceny suspect Bobby Poole Jr., authorities said. When Poole failed to stop, deputies chased him and tried to deploy stop sticks, but Poole wouldn't pull over.
Poole drove onto I-540 going the wrong way and crashed into another vehicle near the Gresham Lake Bridge, authorities said.
Emergency crews took Poole and the people in the other car to WakeMed North by ambulance. Their conditions were unknown.
No deputies were involved in the crash. Charges were pending against Poole, authorities said.
