Cumberland County sheriff’s detectives on Tuesday were searching for a heavy-set black man with dreadlocks who is wanted in the shooting death of a 25-year-old Hope Mills man.

Authorities said they believe the unknown man shot and killed Matthew Scott at Scott's house, 5813 Ajax Drive, shortly after midnight. A woman who was inside the house at the time told authorities she heard a struggle and then a loud, popping noise.

A helicopter airlifted Scott to Chapel Hill, where he died around 4 a.m., officials said. Details of his injuries were not available.

Detectives did not have a better description of the shooter. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office at 910-323-1500.

If someone showed up at my house at midnight, I'd probably be in bed, but that doesn't mean everyone in my house would be. Under normal circumstances I'd probably know who is in my house too, but I don't think someone showing up at my door at midnight and shooting someone normal circumstances. I guess the difference between us is I'm realistic...

BoSox_girl, wouldn't you know who was in your house? I don't know about you, but I know who is in my house at all times. I could figure out who shot someone without xray vision. Do you let strangers wander through your residence?

i don't know about you, but my house has a lot more than one room. if i'm in my kitchen and someone shoots you in my living room, i can't see who did it without xray vision.

How can you be inside the house and hear the shooting but not give a good description of the person who shot someone? That doesn't make sense to me. I think someone is withholding some info here.
