Fayetteville woman, 22, dies in Robeson wreck

A 22-year-old Fayetteville woman died in a single-vehicle wreck outside St. Pauls in Robeson County Thursday night, state troopers said.

Monica Nicole Jessup died after her 2000 Hyundai ran off Barker Ten Mile Road, near Great Marsh Church Road, and hit a bridge abutment shortly before 10:30 p.m., troopers said. Jessup was declared dead at the scene.

Troopers said that speed was a factor in the wreck. The Hyundai was going 70 mph in a 55-mph speed zone.

Investigators were also doing blood tests for alcohol. Troopers said they found alcohol containers in the car but did not know if they were open before the wreck or  were smashed by the impact.
