Clinton, N.C. — State troopers said that Scotty O'Neil Carter, 30, of Clinton, died after a pickup struck him on U.S. Highway 701 early Thursday.
Carter was walking north on the southbound shoulder when he stepped into the path of a pickup driven by Alvin Woodrow Herring, 30, of Clinton, troopers said. The collision happened about three miles south of Clinton around 1:15 a.m.
Herring and his two passengers were not injured.
Troopers said they do not plan to file charges.
