Raleigh, N.C. — Law enforcement issued 836 citations for driving while impaired during a statewide "Booze It & Lose It" campaign around St. Patrick's Day.
State and local agents conducted 2,535 checkpoints and special patrols and issued 20,183 traffic and criminal citations between Friday, March 13 and Tuesday, March 17.
Mecklenburg County, near Charlotte, had the most DWI charges, 94, followed by Wake County with 55 and Buncombe County with 35.
Statewide, agents also apprehended 229 fugitives and recovered 36 stolen vehicles. The citations included 489 drug charges, 6,224 speeding tickets, 1,824 safety belt violations and 195 child passenger-safety violations.

There was once a time in this country when unreasonable stops and searches would have been considered an outrage. I've lost a tremendous amount of respect for police over this...it's clear just who they work for, and its not "the people".

The only "success" is the hours of overtime, taking money out of my pocket and giving it to (selective) law enforcement.
Should we be concerned that they can create a police state whenever they feel like it, or happy that we know it always happens on certain days -- St. Patrick's, Cinco De Mayo, New Years, etc.?
