Erwin, N.C. — The Rev. William C. Goodnight Jr., pastor at Lillington Presbyterian Church, was in critical condition Monday at UNC Hospitals following a car crash last week near Erwin.
Police said Goodnight was driving westbound on U.S. Highway 421 Thursday evening when Dustin Lee Turlington, 17, failed to yield, crossed the road and hit Goodnight’s car on the driver’s side.
Members of Goodnight’s church told the Dunn Daily Record that his condition was “dire.”
"He has some really serious internal injuries," Ed McCormick, a longtime member of the church, told the paper.
Goodnight has been pastor at Lillington Presbyterian for 17 years.
