Autopsy: Rest home fight resulted in strangulation

Godwin, N.C. — A resident of a Cumberland County rest home was strangled by his roommate, an autopsy report shows.

An employee of Countryside Villa Rest Home found Levi Montgomery, 69, unresponsive in his room on Dec. 27.

Montgomery's roommate, Mencie Grimes, 60, was charged with second-degree murder in his death.

Authorities said the roommates got into an argument that turned violent. There was no word on what sparked the dispute.
