Lanes on U.S. 264 closed for ramp work

e-mail print friendly

The state Department of Transportation on Monday closed the right eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 264 between Smithfield Road and Wendell Boulevard.

The four-mile closure is part of the construction of on- and off-ramps that will connect to the future Wendell Falls Boulevard. The lanes will reopen by Aug. 13, officials said.

Mercury Development, which is behind the 1,400-acre Wendell Falls subdivision, is performing and paying for the road work, officials said.

Everyone I know of calls this US 64. In fact, it wasn't US 64/264 until Gov Hunt. US 264 used to end at US 64. By the title, I thought it was some section past Zebulon.

Well, I hope Mercury can do it faster than they are ATTEMPTING to do Poole and Richardson or it'll be closed until 2010.

So the headline ("Lanes on US 264 closed...") is kind of misleading. It should really say "Lanes on US 64/264 closed".
