A spokeswoman for the North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine said that an anonymous caller helped them find a dog that slipped away from its handler early Sunday.

A man called the university Monday to report that he found Lilly, a black Labrador Retriever mix, walking near Rex Hospital.

Owner Tara Oxley brought Lilly in for treatment at N.C. State's vet school. The dog slipped off her leash while a staffer was exercising her outdoors in a construction site in the 4700 block of Hillsborough Street shortly after midnight.

Staffers looked for her, and campus police came out to help, but they couldn't find her.

Wow, amazing! So glad she was found. I would be terrified for my pup if he were to wonder those streets as he is not familiar with busy roads. Glad she was found safe and sound, I hope the vet school has fixed any issues that allowed this to happen!

I am so GLAD you found Lily! I've been to the vet school for several reasons, and have always been so impressed! Good luck...

Yeay! From one dog mom to all the others...I am so relieved to know she is safe and back where she is loved and cared for!

hooray! =) I am so glad to hear she is back home safe and sound I wish her a speedy recovery for why she was at the vet school to begin with. Rescues are the best dogs anyone could have- they seem to love their family just a that much more because they know they were saved =). Construction is no excuse- Vet school-Fix those fences!

THANK YOU to everyone for their support in bringing Lily home. She is doing great and is getting some much needed sleep right now. Some people might not understand all the hype for a dog but dog lovers out there will know what an integral part a pet can play in a family. We rescued Lily when she was 4 weeks old and she's been our only child for over 4 years now. What is important here is that we got what we ulimately wanted - our baby girl safely returned. It is unfortunate what happened at NCSU Vet Hospital but it was an honest mistake that could have happened to anyone, anywhere. Despite the events, we will continue to go to NCSU vet hospital for any issues Lily's regular vet can't address - with reassurances that she'll be double-harnessed and there are no holes in the fence, of course! The vet hospital did a great job getting the word out which eventually led to the tip we received this morning. They have a lot of expertise in vet medicine that Raleigh is lucky to have access to.
