A Harnett County sheriff's deputy was injured Friday afternoon in a wreck near McDougald and McCormick roads, close to the Lee County line.

Deputy Daniel C. Jackson was responding to an alarm call when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree, the Harnett County Sheriff's Office said.

Jackson was taken to Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford and then transferred to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. He was listed in critical condition Saturday evening.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol was investigating the wreck, the sheriff's office said. There was rain in the area at the time of the wreck, but authorities did not say whether it was a factor.

Please keep in mind that his family might read this. As most of these posting are very thoughtful and considerate, some of them could be done without.

Instead of worrying about who is at fault, shouldn't we be worried about this officer's life??!!!!!!!!!! Sounds like some people need to learn that lesson!!

Praying for Deputy Jackson and his family. Regardless of the circumstances, at this time all that matters is the deputy's health. With a boyfriend and brother both with the HC Sheriffs office, I know all too well how the stomach drops with stories like this. I pray he will be fine.

My husband works in Harnett Co. and travels that road everyday he said there is a bad curve right at that intersection.

WTVD is reporting his name as Deputy D. C. Jackson.
