Cary, N.C. — Ben Shivar was officially named the town manager of Cary on Thursday, according to a press release from town officials.
The town council swore Shivar in during their regular meeting. He had been serving as Cary’s interim town manager since Bill Coleman retired in October.
Shivar, 57, has worked in local government in North Carolina for more than 32 years. For the past 13 years, he was Cary’s assistant town manager.
The Charlotte native holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a master of public affairs degree from North Carolina State University.
Shivar was selected after a national search that drew 70 applicants from Alaska, California, Washington, Nevada, Texas and Michigan.
Two consulting firms helped narrow the field. The council interviewed two finalists on Wednesday and announced their decision in an open session Thursday.
