Carthage, N.C. — Authorities were searching Wednesday for a father and son suspected of scamming church members in at least three counties.
David Twitty and his son, Travis, have approached church congregations to seek financial help, saying a family member had been injured or killed in an accident, authorities said.
The men have received money from churches in Moore, Chatham and Lee counties, authorities said.
David Twitty is described as a black man in his 30s, 5 feet, 11 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing 170 to 180 pounds. He brown eyes and dreadlocks.
Travis Twitty is described as a black man who is 16 or 17 years old, 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 140 to 150 pounds. He has brown eyes and long dreadlocks.
The men are believed to be driving a red Jeep Cherokee with South Carolina license AKA-475.
