Two Tar bridges in Pitt County to be replaced

The state has awarded a $12.4 million contract for replacement of two bridges that carry Grimesland Bridge Road over the Tar River in Pitt County.

Rea Contracting of Charlotte is to finish the project by May 15, 2012, the Department of Transportation said Wednesday. Work may start as early as March 30, DOT said.

offconstantly...it's probably special because it is using the stimulus money that was given to NC to increase infrastructure and create jobs.

The bridge is very old (old wood and metal rivet design) and extreamly narrow. I can not in my small truck cross the bridge with another car comming without feeling like we are going to hit eachother's side mirrors. The "white line" is the side of the bridge. There is also a fair amount of traffic on it as to cross at any other spot would require driving to Greenville or Washington.

and this is special than any other bridge replacements because?????????????????????
