Emergency personnel responded to a wreck in Sampson County Monday.
Emergency personnel responded to a wreck in Sampson County Monday.

State troopers said they responded to five serious wrecks Monday, including one in which a 16-year-old girl was critically injured.

Troopers said that Jonathan Blackmon Crumpler, 34, of Erwin, was driving a 2006 Ford Expedition south on Honeycutt Road Monday afternoon when he ran a stop sign at Parker Memorial Road.

Crumpler's SUV  hit a car driven by Samantha Eulalia Sabourin, of Clinton, that was going west on Parker Memorial Drive, troopers said. The collision sent the two vehicles spinning off the right side of the road, and they landed in a canal ditch.

Samantha was thrown from her car and landed face down in the water. A witness to the wreck pulled her out of the water, troopers said.

Samantha was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. She was listed in serious condition Tuesday.

Crumpler was treated for minor injuries at Sampson Regional Hospital in Clinton.

The Sampson County Sheriff's Office said that an Animal Control Officer passing by called in the wreck.

Charges have not yet been filed in the wreck.

First of all can you not fix the headlines. Professionals shsssh! Our thoughts and prayers are with both of the victims and their families. Driving carefully is so important and if you drive carefully you only need to watch out for the other person. I know that Mr Crumpler is probably feeling horrible about this, especially since he has two children of his own. The world is in too big of a hurry an when that happens people get hurt or they die. God Bless all affected by this terrible accident.

Wishing them the best.

Local paper reporting Mr. Crumpler taken to UNC Hospitals last night.

yes 16 can be young too young to drive for some individuals, but in Samantha's defense neither wreck was her fault, both were caused by older more experienced drivers

Thoughts and Prayers to All involved...

She is 16 and 2 accidents recently??? I think she better stick to a bike.

I still feel 16 is to young to be driving alone...my opinion.
