Slain mom's husband, family reach deal on child support

Raleigh, N.C. — A slain Cary woman's family and her husband have reached an agreement regarding temporary child support for the couple's two young daughters.

Brad Cooper and Nancy Cooper's family entered into a consent order for temporary child support Monday morning. Under the agreement, her family will receive $8,655.80 of his final paycheck from Cisco Systems Inc., in the amount of $10,138. The rest goes to taxes.

Brad Cooper is charged with first-degree murder in the July 12 slaying of his wife, whose body was found in an undeveloped subdivision about three miles from the couple's Cary home.

Garry and Donna Rentz and Krista Lister, Nancy Cooper's parents and sister, have temporary custody of the Coopers' two daughters. They filed a motion last year for temporary child support, alleging Cooper was trying to liquidate his assets and sell his possessions.

Nancy Cooper's family asked that Brad Cooper be required to pay child support to them and pay for the children's medical and dental expenses.

A man walking his dog found Nancy Cooper's body on the bank of a storm water pond. The 34-year-old mother of two was likely strangled, according to a medical examiner's report.

A permanent custody hearing is scheduled for June.

Brad Cooper remains in the Wake County jail, where he is being held without bond.
