Man dies in Fayetteville wreck

Fayetteville, N.C. — A man died after a single-vehicle wreck on Eastern Boulevard in Fayetteville Sunday morning, police said.

Police said that Mark Wayne Mayr, of Fayetteville, was driving a 2008 white Chevrolet Cobalt north on the South Eastern Boulevard service road, between N.C. Highway 87 and Owen Drive, around 9:45 a.m. His vehicle ran off the road to the right and came back on the roadway but crossed the median and hit a ditch on the right side of the road.

Mayr died while en-route to UNC Hospitals via helicopter, police said.

The cause of the wreck had not been determined Sunday afternoon.
