Battleboro, N.C. — Edgecombe County sheriff’s deputies were investigating after a woman's body was found Saturday morning off Marriott Farm Road, near Battleboro.
People riding four-wheelers spotted the body of an African-American woman in the woods and called 911 around 10:40 a.m.
Deputies said the woman was approximately 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed around 150 pounds. She had short hair.
A cause of death has not been determined. The body was taken to the Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
Deputies said they have a possible identification, pending confirmation by the medical examiner.
Anyone with information about the body was asked to call the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office at 252-641-7911.
