Fuquay-Varina, N.C. — Crews fighting woods fires in Wake and Johnston counties Saturday afternoon say the blazes are contained.
At least three fire stations responded to calls about a fire in the 5400 block of Mims Road in Fuquay-Varina around 12:30 p.m. The fire began in some woods and grass but spread to a structure.
A photographer on the scene said the structure was an abandoned mobile home behind a tobacco barn. The mobile home was a total loss. Initial reports indicated someone burning trash might have started the fire.
About an hour later, crews from three more fire stations were called out to another fire in woods off Marks Creed Road, at Pair Farm Lane, west of Knightdale.
Fires were also reported on Morgan Road, near Interstate 40, in Benson. Antioch firefighters battled blazes on Creech Road, near N.C. Highway 42, and Antioch Church Road, near N.C. Highway 39.
Crews remained on the scene of the fires Saturday afternoon. No injuries have been reported.
