Durham, N.C. — A former employee of the year with the Durham County Sheriff's Office was sentenced to two years' probation Friday after pleading guilty to embezzling money and altering court records.
Kimberly Perkins, 29, admitted to stealing $113,000 and altering documents to cover the theft while she worked in the Sheriff's Office civil processing division.
The court also ordered Perkins to pay back $5,000 and perform 100 hours of community service. Insurance will cover the rest of the Sheriff's Office's loss.
Perkins was arrested in May 2007. She had worked for the Sheriff's Office since May 1999 and been in the civil division since 2003. In 2004, she was selected as the department's employee of the year.
The civil division serves civil papers and collects money owed to other Durham County residents.

I'd love to steal $100,000 and then pay back $5000 and be on probation for 2 years without spending a night behind bars.
Where do I sign up????
