Fayetteville, N.C. — Cumberland County Sheriff’s Property Crimes Detectives arrested a second suspect Friday in connection with a Fayetteville chop shop bust.
John Ashley Nicholson, a.k.a “Bear,” 35, of 121 Perch Drive, was arrested at his home Friday afternoon. Investigators say Nicholson and Bernette Maronda Thaggard, 28, of 4774 Old Savannah Church Road, were operating a chop shop in a barn on Thaggard’s property. Detectives discovered the facility Thursday after tracking a stolen car there with GPS technology.
Nicholson was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle and felony conspiracy. Bond had not been set Friday afternoon. Nicholson was scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday afternoon.
Thaggard was released from jail Thursday on $5,000 secured bond.
