Cumberland County sheriff’s detectives charged a Spring Lake man on Friday with 28 felonies and misdemeanors, including statutory rape for alleged involvement with a 14-year-old girl.

Authorities released Jose Cruz-Latorre, 19, of 200 Eppingdale Drive, from the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $150,000 unsecured bond.

Investigators arrested him Friday for an alleged sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl. The victim, who told authorities she had been involved with Latorre since 2008, has had two pregnancies and one abortion and claims he is the father, according to detectives.

Authorities charged Latorre with:

  • five counts of statutory rape
  • one count of burglary
  • five counts of attempted larceny
  • five counts of breaking and entering of vehicles
  • one count of larceny from a building
  • one count of misdemeanor larceny
  • three counts of larceny of a motor vehicle
  • one count of possession of stolen goods
  • three counts of possession of a stolen vehicle
  • one count of possessing stolen goods
  • two counts of felony conspiracy

Latorre was scheduled to make a first court appearance at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Cumberland County Detention Center Courtroom.

she is 14and the 2. time pregnant .. had 1 abortion .. is pregnant again she must started with 12 or 13 ... whats wrong on this picture. The parents are wrong in this picture: should she not be on birth control after the first time?????

And after the new voices he will get punished and walk free b/c we can't pay for him being in Jail and spread the seed of trouble. Oh by the way we will pay for the child and 14 year old mother too.

I always remind my 17 year old son to stay away from young girls. Trouble. The age of consent is 16 and it doesn't matter if she is the aggressor. Or if she makes the whole thing up.

I usually do not get confused, BUT in this case I will make an exception. my question include: how old was she, when she became sexually involved with him? how old was he at that time? what were her ages for each pregnancies? did either of there parents know about them? how has this SLUG been able to accumulate all of these felony charges? SHAWNA..I think you should seek help! Oh my last question, WHY IS HE OUT ON THE STREET>?

Any1butcarolina0405, there are some high school seniors that a high school freshman could date, and there are some that are out of the question. Dating is different from sexual involvement, and that is the core of this. And while we can not naively pretend that no high school relationships include sex, not all high school students are sexually active, no matter how long they have known their partner.

In truth, though, there seem to be few 19 year olds who are high school students for good reasons. I would identify good reasons as: English not being their first language, learning disabilities what went undiagnosed too long, many school transfers because of parents' job changes, health problems that kept students back a grade, and the like.

What's the difference in these two charges?
