Dunn chief: Man planned attack on Wal-Mart

A man climbed to the rafters of the Wal-Mart in Dunn Saturday and cut down hanging signs because he held long-standing grudge against the retailer, Chief B. P. Jones of the Dunn Police Department said Monday.

William Arthur Palmer, 46, entered the store at 590 Jackson Blvd around 11 p.m., took some pliers from the hardware department and set about his task, Jones said.

A witness said that when Palmer finished cutting down signs, he slid down a support column  “looking like a fireman."

Police arrested Palmer on charges of injury to real property and disorderly conduct. He was placed in the Harnett County jail on $1,000 bond.

Jones postulated that Palmer, whose wife was injured by a falling sign at that store, had “stewed on this for sometime" and planned the incident.

No one was injured, although the store closed temporarily while workers cleaned up the mess.

I have been asked to add that he posted and was released on a 1,000 bond,,,, not much ,,,,,read the story on Dunndailyrecord.com.... this is a family who it seems has been through a lot and he was at a breaking point,,,hopefully( unfortunately) maybe this will help get he and his wife the help they need....

Dunn Daily Record has below as THEIR headline in today's edition..this is more of an appropriate headline for the story.

"Man angry at Walmart Snaps"

I rec'd an email from an Editor at WRAL about my comment. I thought it was very nice of them to email me. They explained the tough balance in choosing words and such. I thought that was very nice of them to write me about it and I respect the for it. We are all entitled to our feelings. That's what makes the world go around but isn't it refreshing when we can agree to disagree with respect...? I think so...Thanks, T

Falling prices I suppose..????

I agree. I hope they change the title and I'm sure through the proper channels his wife will be compensated for medical bills through Wal-Mart but please WRAL, change the title. It creeped me out. I read it thinking this man did something very serious. Thanks
