Raleigh, N.C. — State transportation Secretary Gene Conti announced Friday that Mike Robertson will lead the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles.
Robertson was the director of the state Department of Crime Control and Public Safety’s Division of Alcohol and Law Enforcement from 2002 to 2007.
“Mike’s extensive law enforcement experience makes him an excellent choice to lead DMV,” Conti said.
Robertson has more than 35 years' experience in law enforcement at the local and state levels. As director of ALE, he oversaw Alcohol Law Enforcement, the state Center for Missing Persons, the Bingo Enforcement Section and the North Carolina Boxing Authority.
Robertson holds a bachelor of science in psychology from Fayetteville State University and an MBA from Pfeiffer University.
He also is a graduate of the North Carolina Administrative Officer’s Management Program and the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy.
As DMV commissioner, Robertson will oversee daily operations for the division, which includes oversight of driver's licenses, vehicle registration and safety and emissions inspections.
He begins work March 2.
