Fayetteville, N.C. — A former Pine Forest High School teacher faces a criminal charge for having what Cumberland County authorities said appeared to be a one-day sexual relationship with a student.
Michael Thomas Correll II, 26, of 513 Torhunta Drive in Hope Mills, engaged in "inappropriate behavior with a female student between Jan. 31 and Feb. 1," the sheriff's office said in a statement Wednesday.
Correll, who was an art teacher and soccer coach at the school, was charged with sexual activity with a student, which is a felony under state law.
He was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $2,000 secured bond.
Correll was scheduled to make his first court appearance Thursday afternoon.
