Oxford, N.C. — James Duke Bradsher, of Oxford, died Monday in a "freak accident" when a tree fell on him, Granville County Sheriff David T. Smith said.
Bradsher was cutting a tree for a neighbor when another tree fell, hitting him in the head, Smith said. The death was "a terrible accident for the whole community," Smith said. Police said the tree that killed Bradsher may have been blown over by the wind.
Bradsher, the owner of Duke & Pat's Gun Shop on Enon Road, was known to help residents by cutting wood.
