The Board of Commissioners approved a stadium contract Monday evening for renovations to Durham County Memorial Stadium.

Phase one of the renovation project includes new artificial turf for the football field, adjustable goal posts, a new scoreboard and an eight-lane track. The venue would also get a new sign on Duke Street.

The county Stadium Authority has recommended a budget of $7.7 million for the project.

Over 7 million?! WOW. We just completed renovations to Doug Shaw Stadium here in Myrtle Beach last year. Dough Shaw is similar in size and layout to County Stadium. Doug Shaw's pricetag was 3.5 million and that included new artifical field-turf, new rubberized track, upgraded visitor's seating, and a Jumbotron. Maybe Durham should call Myrtle Beach? Here is a link to the improved Doug Shaw Stadium.

I hope they put it out to BID instead of giving it to these out of town construction managers! I am not seeing where they hit their targets either!

But it's REALLY nice fake grass..............

7 million? are you kidding me! I priced the same things for our comunity school and it was less than 1.5 mill, man I'm glad I moved out of Derm. You get what you elect, now you have to live with them for a few more years.

I have put off repairs that are not serious because I'm afraid to spend the money. But the "Powers That BE" in Durham can spend my money for artificial turf? They probably will vote themselves a raise later this year. Don't raise my taxes for this, I don't even go to the ballgames. Charge extra for tickets.
