Shamont McRae, Fayetteville shooting victim

Fayetteville, N.C. — Police on Monday were investigating the death of a man who was dropped off Sunday night at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Shamont Antwain McRae, 22, of Singleton Road in Raeford, was dropped off at the hospital at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, and he died in the emergency room of a gunshot wound, police said.

Police said friends drove McRae to the hospital, and investigators located them late Sunday and have interviewed them.

The shooting occurred near Friar Avenue off Hope Mills Road, which is about two miles from the hospital, police said.

Investigators are treating the case as a homicide, but no details regarding a motive or possible suspects were released.

Shamont was a kind man and did not deserve to die in such a horrible way. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Wow all of you commenting on this story...do you know shamont? How dare any of you say such harsh things about him like you know him. His life was taken do you understand that? So his family can read your ignorant comments of all of you questioning weather its mug shot pic or not. You all should be ashamed of yourselfs and hope that if that was your story ppl wouldnt say such dumb things. I went to school with shamont and have known him for many years..he was a good, funny, and respectable man. My prayers go out to his family. Im sorry for your lost.RIP SHAMONT MCRAE and forget the haters!

I've known shamont for years and he was such a wonderful person.. He must have gotten mixed up in something and it's a shame to see such a good kid taken away so young. God Bless his family and friends. You will be in my thoughts and prayers Rest in peace.
