Fort Bragg soldiers die in Afghanistan attack

Master Sgt. David Hurt

Two Fort Bragg Green Berets, one from suburban Chicago and the other from Arizona, have been killed in Afghanistan after a military vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device and came under small-arms fire.

The Department of Defense said 26-year-old Staff Sgt. Jeremy Bessa of Woodridge, Ill., died Friday in Khordi. Military officials also said 36-year-old Master Sgt. David Hurt of Tucson, Ariz., died on Friday in Kandahar from wounds received in the same attack.

Both were assigned to the 1st Battalion of the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), based at Fort Bragg.
