e-mail print friendly

Three people were displaced by an apartment fire at 210 Purefoy Road early Friday. No one was injured.

The fire started in one apartment unit around 4:30 a.m. One of the residents woke up and told neighbors to get out, according to Chapel Hill firefighters.

One unit had fire damage, and the one below it had water damage, officials said.

There was no word on the cause of the fire.

Firefighters called the Red Cross to help tenants, while the third person found shelter elsewhere.

As one of the six residents of the building affected by the fire, though not of the unit that burned, I have to respectfully disagree.... it wasn't arson, it was a faulty baseboard heater/space heater too close to the window treatments (a finding directly from the fire marshall). The timing of the fire so soon following the shooting certainly appears suspicious, but the layout of the building suggests otherwise. The resident who was shot was attacked around the back of the building, on an access driveway that is very difficult to find if you don't know it's there (suggesting that it was possibly someone who was familiar with that resident). Whereas the fire was truly a case of accident and/or carelessness. It has been a very difficult week for our little apartment building, but so far there is no evidence to suggest that the two incidents are related or that anything nefarious is going on.

According to the N&O's newest update, the fire was caused by combustible materials left near a heater. So it's likely just a coincidence, but I'm sure glad I don't live in that neighborhood anymore.

I found it curious as well.. but I also dont buy the 4 black males story....

This story would be much higher on the top-voted list if it weren't missing this crucial part: http://dailytarheel.com/news/city/man_shot_3_times_but_ok-1.1487445

Somebody is obviously out to get whoever lives there. It is definitely arson.
