Smithfield, N.C. — Johnston County sheriff's deputies charged a Smithfield-Selma High School student with a felony after school resource officers found weapons in his car Thursday.
Christopher G. Byrd, 16, was charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, sheriff's office spokeswoman Tammy Amaon said.
School resource officers had Byrd's car towed and searched after they noticed it was parked on school property without the appropriate sticker, Amaon said. They found a loaded pellet gun, brass knuckles, a knife and ammunition.
