Break-in; Home Invasion

A Fayetteville homeowner shot an intruder twice last month, killing him, according to an autopsy report.

Jerry Riley, 54, of 593 Tokay Drive, said a stranger confronted him as he entered his home on Jan. 17. Riley said he pulled a handgun on the intruder, and the two men then struggled over the gun.

The gun went off, and the intruder took the pistol and ran out of the house, police said.

Officers investigating the burglary found Joshua Caleb Pratt, 27, of 662 Glenola Drive, in the street with a gunshot would to the abdomen. He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he died.

Pratt died of the stomach wound, and he also had a gunshot wound in his left shoulder, according to an autopsy report released Wednesday. He also was intoxicated at the time of his death, the report said.

Fayetteville police said Riley was justified in the shooting and wouldn't face criminal charges.

Now the homeowner will need a lawyer, no doubt the deceased family will seek money from a wrongful death civil suit.

They will also file against the maker of the fireram, it is defective, it caused the death. And the ammo maker, for selling deadly ammunition.

Justice served.

Shouldn't have been in someone's else's home trying to steal.

Some CT units went to the triple tap with two instinct shots quickly to center of mass to disorient the opponent, followed by a third more precisely aimed shot to the head.

Double tap was originally two shots in rapid succession to the same area. It was intended to increase the stopping power or trauma effect of pistol rounds. It was taught in some police organizations, CT, and special ops units.

This is the CHANGE we need!!
