This happened right next to our neighborhood and while I did not hear of it until today, this does not surprise me. Most people think of Main St in Holly Springs as a quiet little road but that it not the case. This road is quite dangerous to those on foot, bicycle, and even those who are driving. Ask anyone who needs to take a left on Main without the aid of a light what they think about this road... I have seen numerous cars end up in in the ditch further down Main St and still, people continue to fly on down this road. To the person who says that Holly Springs needs to own their problems, we do. We are a close commuity that work together to change things that need to be changed. Main Street is dangerous, that is all there is to it. Prayers to the family of the victim.

"Holly Springs rents out our soccer fields to many other towns in the area and the majority of the drivers are not respectful" What a load of smelly stuff - lets blame the problem on outsiders and target them for enforcement actions by Holly Springs police on certain streets?? Holly Springs residents all need to own the problem instead of adopting a victim mentality and looking for scapegoats...

I too live in Holly Springs and often walk to the library or Java Divine with my children. It is amazing to me how fast people fly down the side streets, not to mention the main street. Holly Springs rents out our soccer fields to many other towns in the area and the majority of the drivers are not respectful of the pedestrians walking near those parks. Holly Springs police could make a ton of revenue just pulling people on Grigsby and Raleigh roads. The speed limit is 25MPH and I doubt I have ever seen people do that. I do drive that limit because I know my neighbors and kids are walking on those streets. I can't tell you how many times I have had someone on my tail or pass me while driving the posted speed limit.

I live (and jog) in Holly Springs, and this does not surprise me one bit! Despite the constant pleas from Mayor Sears for people to drive safely and watch-out for pedestrians (check-out his weekly letter in the Holly Springs Sun), drivers are oblivious to pedestrians in crosswalks. I've had a few close calls myself while out jogging. One time while out jogging, I was crossing the street with a man in a wheelchair, and we were on the yellow center line, IN A CROSSWALK, and we still had to wait (and watch 10 cars continue to pass by) before we could get across the second half of the street. Get a clue, drivers! It shouldn't take a tragedy like this to remind you that pedestrians have the right of way.
