The principal of Garner High School, Michael Holton, resigned his position with the Wake County Public School System on Tuesday, a district spokesman said.

Greg Thomas, spokesman for Wake County schools, said he was not aware of the reason for Holton's departure.

Holton began his career with the school district in 2000, as an assistant principal at Enloe High School. He became principal of East Garner Middle School in March 2003 and principal of Garner High in August 2006.

As the parent of a junior at GMHS, I have to say that I have been nothing but impressed with Mr. Holton from day one. His replacement will have a tough act to follow. I sincerely hope his health improves with this change and that he and his family will be blessed.

Hope he can get it worked out. He was a good principal (much better imo than his predecessor). Hate to see him go. Good luck, Mr Holton.

From the N&O.....The principal at Garner Magnet High School resigned this week because of health concerns. Michael Holton’s resignation went in effect today. He had led the school for about three years. Holton, 40, said he suffered a brain aneurism five years ago. Since then, he said, he has dealt with migraine headaches. He said he can’t take prescription medications for the migraines because of the aneurism. “I’ve just reached a point where I needed to get my health straight,” Holton said. He has missed some days this school year because of migraines. Last school year, he missed work when he visited a headache clinic in Chicago and spent a week at a hospital. “It reached a point where I was missing too much work,” Holton said. “That’s not good. People need their leader present.” Holton said he will continue to explore ways to improve his health. As for the school, he said he will miss his students and the staff. His replacement has not been named.

his mother "through" the child out? Very IMPressive.

Mr. Holton is a class guy. I met him through the Trojan Club. He has a done a great job with the school. If it is for health reasons, I hope they are not serious and I wish him and his family the best!
