An Amtrak train was held up for a time in Northampton County on Monday night while authorities removed a passenger who was behaving suspiciously, a rail spokeswoman said.

Spokeswoman Vernae Graham said train No. 91, the Silver Star from New York to Miami with a stop in Raleigh, was stopped at 6:40 p.m. in the town of Garysburg, about 30 miles east of Rocky Mount and 93 miles northeast of Raleigh.

Its 254 passengers were allowed to reboard about four hours later.

Graham declined to discuss what the suspicious passenger was doing, but said law enforcement officers removed that person. There were no injuries.

A state Highway Patrol trooper helped direct traffic around the train, which was stopped near N.C. Highway 46.

According to Amtrak's Web site, the train was scheduled to arrive in Raleigh at about 12:52 a.m.

Its not stated that he is even being HELD, just that he was removed from the train, which is well withing Amtrak's rights to do if they deem him unfit to travel or in any way disruptive to travel. What happened to the good of the whole in this country? You have a train FULL of well behaved people and one person acting in such a way that made someone scared enough to speak up. Amtrak reps felt him to be threatening enough to remove him and risk the bad PR and a 4 hr delay and you're comparing them with the USSR for removing him? That type of mentality is why America is limping along, barely working. That your thoughts go first to the bizarre and possibly dangerous instead of the hundreds of other scared, delayed people speaks to all that is wrong with us these days.

I would like to think that we live in a free society, but its only a free society to some, not all.

wow, only a 4 hour delay to remove a passenger. That would make me real happy..

Sooooo...what was the guy doing or not doing I wonder.

late bulletin....passenger demanded that train take him to CUBA!
