Garysburg, N.C. — An Amtrak train was held up for a time in Northampton County on Monday night while authorities removed a passenger who was behaving suspiciously, a rail spokeswoman said.
Spokeswoman Vernae Graham said train No. 91, the Silver Star from New York to Miami with a stop in Raleigh, was stopped at 6:40 p.m. in the town of Garysburg, about 30 miles east of Rocky Mount and 93 miles northeast of Raleigh.
Its 254 passengers were allowed to reboard about four hours later.
Graham declined to discuss what the suspicious passenger was doing, but said law enforcement officers removed that person. There were no injuries.
A state Highway Patrol trooper helped direct traffic around the train, which was stopped near N.C. Highway 46.
According to Amtrak's Web site, the train was scheduled to arrive in Raleigh at about 12:52 a.m.
