Siler City, N.C. — State troopers said that both a driver and a passenger were impaired when their Sport Utility Vehicle overturned on U.S. Highway 421 South, outside Siler City, early Sunday.
Joseph B. Smith, 20, of Raeford, was driving when the vehicle went off the highway, just north of Exit 168 to South Chatham Avenue/Sam Fields Road at about 5 a.m., troopers said. The SUV flipped over several times.
Smith and the passenger were taken to Chatham Hospital in Siler City. The passenger sustained a head injury but was expected to be OK, troopers said.
Smith was charged with driving while impaired, driving with a revoked license and reckless driving.
The passenger, whose name has not been released, was also underage, troopers said.
