State troopers said that both a driver and a passenger were impaired when their Sport Utility Vehicle overturned on U.S. Highway 421 South, outside Siler City, early Sunday.

Joseph B. Smith, 20, of Raeford, was driving when the vehicle went off the highway, just north of Exit 168 to South Chatham Avenue/Sam Fields Road at about 5 a.m., troopers said. The SUV flipped over several times.

Smith and the passenger were taken to Chatham Hospital in Siler City. The passenger sustained a head injury but was expected to be OK, troopers said.

Smith was charged with driving while impaired, driving with a revoked license and reckless driving.

The passenger, whose name has not been released, was also underage, troopers said.

Sad story but this happens much to often. The problem here is how do you stop someone with a revoked licence from driving? Just because he has no licence does not mean he can't drive all he has to do is get a set of key's and he gone legal or not.

our only hope for these people is that next time they roll is the LAST time that they roll, no sympathy here for drunk drivers.

Not sure how the judicial system can prevent a person from driving unless you are suggesting that we lock up everyone who gets their license revoked. That would require us to dramatically increase the size of our jail and prison facilities and is completely unrealistic on a number of other levels.

And yes, I bet that he's driving today.

DWI with a revoked license - our justice system at it's finest. Any bets on whether he's driving today?
