Garner, N.C. — Garner police officers were searching Friday for a man who they believe ran from a traffic stop and stole a car assigned to a North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation employee.
Just before midnight Thursday, an officer pulled over an unidentified man for speeding. The man stopped the car on New Rand Road, got out and ran, according to police. The car the man was driving had been stolen, police said.
Ten minutes later, about a mile away, a logistics coordinator with the SBI reported that his government-issued car was stolen from his driveway. The license plate is PVW 3543.
Authorities are trying to find the man who ran from police and determine if he is responsible for stealing the SBI employee's car as well.
The unmarked SBI car is a four-door, white Oldsmobile that was made in either 2001 or 2002, police said. The car does not have antennas, tinted windows or tracking devices, police said.
Authorities said they do not have a good description of the man who got away.
