Nobbie Dubose, Clayton High shooting

Police charged two men Thursday in a shooting outside Clayton High School two weeks ago.

Someone fired two shots in a parking lot at Clayton High on Jan. 27 while a basketball game was being played in the school gymnasium, police said. One bullet struck a brick wall outside the gymnasium, but no injuries or damage were reported.

Nobbie Lee Dubose III, 18, of 219 Cottonwood Drive in Clayton, and Rasheive Dashawn Ray, 16, of 860 Taft St. in Selma, surrendered to police Thursday afternoon and were charged with felonious discharge of a firearm on educational property and attempting to fire a weapon into occupied property.

Both men were being held Thursday in the Johnston County Jail under $80,000 bonds.

Investigators haven't determined the motive for the shooting, but they said they don't believe it was related to the basketball game between Clayton High and Garner High School.

This is really unusual for Clayton. The crime rate for Clayton is very low and while gang activity is often speculated, there is very little if any actual gang crime there. I'm glad the Police arrested these guys, because this is not the norm at all for Clayton High School either.

This is a societal problem that will keep perpetuating itself. I would be willing to bet a paycheck, that these two were born to unwed mothers and these boys had little involvement with a male role model. When they get out of prison in a couple of years they will procreate without benefit of marriage and be absent in their children's lives. Their children will then grow up and do the same thing. All of this spending on social programs does not work the cycle keeps repeating itself.

The only solution is to make it punitive for everyone involved who keeps producing children they cannot and will not raise.
