Burning SUV pours smoke over morning commuters

An SUV burned along Interstate 40 eastbound Wednesday morning.

A car fire along Interstate 40 eastbound sent smoke billowing over rush-hour traffic Wednesday morning.

A red-and-white SUV caught fire shortly after 8 a.m. along the side of the road between between Interstate 540 and Airport Boulevard. Smoke was pouring from the vehicle when emergency crews arrived.

Durham and Morrisville firefighters quickly brought the fire under control.

wrong year for the cruise control disconnects. That year had 2 issues - ignition swtich could overheat, or the impact sensor that shuts off the fuel supply can cause a problem, if the heater core leaked antifreeze on it and the contacts started to short to ground. Not uncommon to leak - uncommon to cause a fire. The ignition switch is a known recall.

Fuel filter is under the passenger area along the frame of the truck. It's not in the engine bay.

Cruise Control Disconnect Switch that Fords are so Famous For? Maybe he got the 1st recall harness where they put the fuse on the ground and not the hot leg, and hasn't gotten the 2nd recall. What a GREAT wiring job on that sensor......

That's a hot mess.
