The state Department of Transportation announced Tuesday morning that road-patching work will close two of three lanes on the Inner Beltline, Interstate 440, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. around Lake Boone Trail.

Crews will be working on the center lane, necessitating closing two lanes, DOT said.

The predicted traffic impact was "high," the state said.

I'd be interested to hear them, JakeB.

Sincerely, DOT employee

Sounds like human nature here at its finest. We always want something done, as long as we are not inconvenienced. There are alternate routes, use them. There are alot of reasons it cant be done at nite.

There is no valid reason they cannot do this from say 10pm to 5am. Anytime during the day is going to cause major traffic problems. That's DOT for you.

Lets just hope they don't botch it up so we can pay over and over and waste more tax payer dollars!

atleast they are doing in on off peak hours.

reasons not to do center lane paving at night: 1) safety. drunk drivers are dangerous. even more so when you shut off 2 of their 3 lanes to swerve in. 2) temperature. the temperature is a factor in when you can pave. if it's too hot or too cold you can't do it. 3) money. if they have to pay them overtime pay for working at night, i'd rather they do it during the day. money is tight right now for the DOT.
