Vehicle hits pedestrian in Durham

Durham police were investigating an accident involving a pedestrian Monday evening at Guess and Horton roads.

Police said Allison Lauren Winokur, 22, was crossing the street at the intersection when a Chevrolet Blazer hit her.

Paramedics transported Winokur by ambulance to Duke University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Christopher Scott Taylor, 22, police said.

No charges had been filed late Monday.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Durham Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

i know the driver personally. it was dark, and the girl was jaywalking. yes he saw other cars swerving but didn't realize why until he hit her. that boy is totally broken up about it because they work together and was holding her at the scene crying and apologizing over and over. he wasn't one of those "fools". my prayers go out to allison.

Why are you assuming the driver is at fault here? Do see some other details in the article that I missed?

This is the same location where the young girl was killed crossing the street while walking to school because she though she missed her bus. It must have been a year or two ago. So sad, it's a really busy, major artery.
