Ballpark seats go on auction block

Durham, N.C. — Fans of "Bull Durham" can bid for a piece of movie memorabilia over the next week.

Durham has put 300 seats from the Durham Athletic Park up for auction on the GovDeals.com Web site. The seats are being sold in lots of one, five or 10 rows, with a row comprising four seats.

The bids for each lot start at $1, and the auction runs through 7 p.m. Feb. 12.

The seats are considered to be in poor condition, according to the Web site, and prospective buyers can call Joy Mickle Walker, the city's downtown development coordinator, at 919- 560-4965, extension 208, to arrange a visit to the DAP to inspect them.

The DAP was home to the Durham Bulls minor-league baseball team from 1926 to 1994, and the stadium was a primary film location for the 1988 movie "Bull Durham."

The city is renovating the ballpark to serve as a training facility for minor-league groundskeepers and to eventually host college and other baseball games. The $5 million upgrade is expected to be complete in May and includes a state-of-the-art playing field and improvements to the infrastructure, restrooms, concessions and – of course – seating.
