Goldsboro, N.C. — Department of Correction officers and local law enforcement agencies are searching for a New Bern man who escaped from Neuse Correctional Institution Saturday night.
Johnny Dewayne Dickerson, 29, is serving a six-month sentence for misdemeanor larceny, communicating threats and simple assault, DOC spokesman Mike Stater said in a news release Monday morning.
The DOC did not say how Dickerson managed to escape, but authorities believe he might be in the New Bern area.
Dickerson was convicted in November and began his sentence last month, according to the DOC's Offender Public Information database.
Anyone who has seen Dickerson or has information on his whereabouts should call local law enforcement or the Neuse Correctional Institution at 919-731-2023.
