Three juveniles charged with dog-fighting

A 14-year-old and two 16-year-olds from Wayne County have been charged with dog-fighting in unrelated investigations dating to last summer, authorities said Monday.

In one case, investigators found evidence of dog-fighting at a home on Will Anderson Road on July 16 after a tip came into the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies confiscated photographs of dogs attacking each other, and they seized three pit bulls.

In the second case, animal control officers and deputies seized seven pits from a home on Stanley Chapel Church Road on Sept. 15 after finding injured dogs, equipment used for wound care, old surgical gloves, needles, syringes and the remnants of injectible antibiotics given to dogs that had been injured during fights.

“This is a horrible crime against animals. It is amazing to me that people who participate in this criminal activity actually perceive this as a form of entertainment and have no remorse," Wayne County Sheriff Carey Winders said in a statement.
