Fayetteville police detectives arrested two men accused of taking indecent liberties against a 15-year-old girl.

Detectives first opened an investigation of Harry Bugler, 21, of 249 Westwood Drive, and his involvement with the victim. Police said that the investigation revealed that John Edmundson, 19, of 3006 Sigman St., had also been involved with the girl since November 2008.

Detectives arrested Edmundson Wednesday and Bugler Thursday.

Bugler was charged with three counts each of taking indecent liberties with a child and crimes against nature and two counts each of statutory sexual offenses and statutory rape.

Edmundson was charged with two counts each of taking indecent liberties with a child and statutory rape.

Both men were being held in the Cumberland County Jail Friday morning. Bugler had a $160,000 secured bond, and Edmundson had a $50,000 secured bond.

This one sounds like a "WASTE" pf tome fpr both the police and the courts! They all look like kids to me.

I agree with the majority here. She may not be old enough to enter into a contract, but she knew what was going on. I see it all the time where I work around high school students. I am a woman, but what I have also seen is that if it's the guy who is a little older then they want to nail him to the wall. If the older party was a woman, she'd have to be 20 years older to warrant any consequences. There's a serious double standard here. I also know many 15 year old girls who look like they are 20 or older because their parents allow them to wear clothing and makeup that make them appear that way and because biologically girls are maturing faster than ever and so they do appear to be that old. I also knew a situation where everything was fine til the young couple broke up and then the girl's mother takes charges out on the guy, when she was the one who let him sleep in her home.

Unless she was forced, give these guys a break and be reasonable.

Finally...I am 56 years old now and a "child" of the birth control revolution in this country. The advent of such gave different choices to young women who were and are no longer at risk of unplanned pregnacies. I believe this law was put in place in part to protect the young women who had no such options from becoming pregnant. It is antiquated now. And the new antiquated thought is that some how it is wrong to use boirth control at a young age or to offer options to sexually active teens that the parents may not condone.

The issue of statutory rape needs to be revisited in this day and age. Without knowing the circumstances in this case, it is immaterial to make any statement. However, if this was consensual, which it often is between people of similar ages, I would like to know if there is parental pressure from the girl's family in initiating this action. If she was actually raped, then that is another issue. Once again, the law cannot take the place of the parents in restricting or condoning behaviors that tenns engage in. If these boys are guilty of a forcible rape, then they should be arraigned. If not, someone needs to be more aware of their daughter's actions as well.

Well said, Crayzee1. If a 15 year old isn't competent to consent to sex, she isn't old enough to be charged for an adult crime either. If they charged these things when I was in high school, half the senior class (who were dating sophomores) would have been locked up.
