Cary police are investigating an armed robbery and aggravated assault that they said took place Sunday at 200 Torrey Pines Drive.

According to police reports, a man called police just before 11 p.m. and said he had been robbed in his home at gunpoint. The thief made off with cash and a debit card.

A police spokesman said investigators believe the crime was an isolated incident and do not think there is a widespread threat in the neighborhood.

He asked residents to report unusual activity in their neighborhoods to Cary Police at 919-469-4012.

The day after Thanksgiving, I was installing Christmas lights in front of my Cary home at about 7:00 PM. A white four door american made care with two male occupants basically pulled over in front of my neighbors house. I was armed and ready to engage the threat, fortunately, I think my awareness gave them secound thoughts. Nonetheless, the drove back down my street very slowly and turned around and came back in my direction. I went inside and called Cary PD. I never saw a unit respond to my call and I gave Cary PD my address with a good description of the suspects. I guess it depends on who the dispatcher is on that given day. People, you are the last line of defense don't count on anyone else for your protection. Police is more of a reactionary force than preventive.

Cary will see a spike in crimes due to its high income population.

"I am afraid with the state of our economy there will many more robberies and home invasions"

and these thugs would normally be model citizens.

We always lock our doors, day and nite, in the house and cars. Too many people think that they can leave thigs open and nothing will happen. Read the peolice report in the Cary Snews and you'll see almost every car robbery the cars are unlocked and cell phones, GPS devices credit cards, and such, some times in plain sight. How dumb can you be?!?!!? I have to wonder what the deal was with this house in Preston?

Sounds like your husband needs to see it to believe it. I hope he never does. I lock my doors and have something waiting for anyone who doesn't respect my property. If you're hungry, rob the grocery store. Invading someone's home is the ultimate breach and they deserve whatever they get. No matter how much we want to believe the world is generally good, there are growing numbers of those with a whatever attitude. They'll steal your identity and anything else if given the opportunity.

Give me a break.
