Inspectors back at Central Regional Hospital

Central Regional Hospital in Butner
Central Regional Hospital in Butner

Surveyors working on behalf of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services returned to the state's newest psychiatric hospital Wednesday morning for a follow-up visit.

Central Regional Hospital, which opened last summer, was in immediate jeopardy of losing federal reimbursements for Medicare and Medicaid. Part of the reason officials had cited was failing to provide care in a safe environment and to prevent patient abuse and neglect at both its Butner facility and its Raleigh facility, formerly known as Dorothea Dix Hospital.

Central had until Dec. 14 to correct issues found during a November site survey, including the inappropriate restraint of a patient. The hospital also had to correct several deficiencies that did not affect its ability to receive federal funding.

This week's visit is to ensure the facilities have been implementing a CMS-approved corrective action plan that removed Central from its immediate jeopardy status.

The inspectors are expected to be at both facilities for two days.

This is not an accurate statement, "prevent patient abuse and neglect at both its Butner facility and its Raleigh facility, formerly known as Dorothea Dix Hospital." The former Dorothea Dix Hospital (Raleigh facility) was not cited at all for any patient abuse and neglect. That was the Butner Facility. It would be helpful to get the story correct.

NC probably has the worst social services in the USA!

I hope that this was a surprise inspection. That's what needs to happen every time - (an inspector walks in off the street, unannounced and unplanned. That is the only way to tell if things have been corrected. If they gave them notice then staff will be at their best behavior just so that they can pass.

If you give inspectors the authority that they need to have wheather it is in the inspections of a mental hospital faculity or for a highway construction project in north carolina let the inspectors do their jobs an then give them the support an backing that they need to have in order to make their inspections actually stand for soemthing an you can rid north carolina of a lot of problems when it come to inadequate faclity's an or any other nc state operations that receive both state an federal funding thank you
