Raleigh, N.C. — The "Joe" of Joe's Place, a popular downtown lunch spot in Raleigh, e-mailed a farewell note Sunday to customers and the media.
"This Friday, January 30th, we’ll serve lunch at Joe’s Place for the last time; and you’re not going to talk me out of it this time," the message read.
The restaurant has served downtown workers for almost 30 years on Martin Street near Nash Square. The owners announced plans to close in 2006, only to change their mind.
