I never met Gov. Scott, but I did attend high school with both daughters in Raleigh. Despite being delivered to school each morning by a state highway patrolman, you'd never know these girl's father was the governor. They were the nicest, most down to earth pair you ever met. I think that said alot about their parents.

My best friend worked for Gov. Scott way back in the early 70's out on the Scott farm in Alamance County. This was during the period of time just before farming was mechinized and most everything was done by people. It was like one huge family working together. I was not previleged to meet Gov. Scott, but worked on various farms throughout the area, handing, looping, barning, priming tobacco. It was extremely hard wrok. There was no insurance, little pay, but the most wonderful friendships were develeoped. Gov. Scott gave my friend 500 cash when he and his wife had a baby, which was like a fortune at the time. He was a hard working and fair minded man. He and his type are almosst completely gone now. There are only a few of us old timers left and the young ones do not want to hear about how things used to be. At least people were honest, there were no layoffs, and almost everyone was poor, but not in friendships, family or love for your neighbor.
