A Red Springs man was charged late Thursday with killing his girlfriend, whom authorities investigating a traffic accident found dead inside a car he was driving, police said.

Kevin Marshell Robinson, 23, of 58 Beck St., was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was being held Friday without bond in the Robeson County Jail.

Police said Robinson argued with his girlfriend, Melanie Diana Ray, 24, as they sat in her car at 103 Manus St. in Red Springs at about 7 p.m. Thursday. Robinson shot Ray once in the head and drove off, police said.

Robinson was involved in accident on N.C. Highway 211 between W.D. Locklear and West Carthage roads west of Lumberton. When Robeson County deputies and Highway Patrol troopers responded to the accident scene, they found Ray's body inside the car, police said.

The case remains under investigation.

Time for some Texas justice in the Tarheel State!

"Life in prison without parole? "

Yes, this is the new, compassionate spineless world we live in.

what is there to investigate? he said he shot her in the head. case closed.

Life in prison without parole? His girlfriend won't get to breathe another breath, why should he? Twenty three and already killed somebody for no reason, he ain't gonna be much use to society anyway.

Keep praying for these young people. Some don't value life at all. Life in prison without parole. My condolences to the young lady's family and friends.
